Let’s get the party started! Scenes from the Feria de Caballo – Jerez de la Frontera

May is Feria month around Spain – ferias are traditional festivals, not usually religious, but typical of the region. Last weekend we went to the spectacular Horse Fair in Jerez de la Frontera.

What a spectacle it was! Women of all ages wearing beautiful flamenco costumes, handsome caballeros on mounted horses, families dressed in unison, decorated carriages and lots of dancing! It was a great day, and an insight into how the Andalusians enjoy life.

Not sure the little one is convinced this is a fun activity!
The Caballeros pranced up and down and posed for photos.
It’s all about parading in your finery – girl’s day out!
I think she’d rather be at the rides. Check out her flamenco shoes!
I wondered why none of the ladies carried handbags and then I discovered they have hidden pockets sewn into the bottom of their dresses! Love a dress with pockets…
It was a hot day – I felt a bit sorry for the horses
For some caballeros, smiles were optional!
Loved the red polka dots- and she carried them off so well
No colour combination is out of bounds!
Next time I come to this Feria, I intend dressing up in full flamenco
