Day 11 – the route of stone and water

Armenteira to Villanova de Arousa 27km

So we had a visitor to our room this morning!

After a delicious breakfast we were dropped off back at the monastery by our lovely host Anna

And then we started the Route of Stone and Water – which is what this part of the Camino is known as. Honestly, the photos don’t do this section justice. We wandered along the river path seeing waterfalls over rocks, ancient millstone huts, moss covered stones and tree trunks. It was magical! I was expecting to see pixies and fairies hiding in the lush green forest. Here is some of the beauty we walked through…

The rainforest walk was about 4 km, after which the landscape changed back to vineyards and fields of corn.

All that walking was very thirsty work so we stumbled into a local bar in a small village and ordered our lunchtime cerveza. We noticed locals at other tables were consuming what looked like soup served in jugs and drunk out of bowls. Turns out that soup as actually red wine! This is one custom I’m adopting when I get home (note to all of you who come for meals at our place…)

Our walk took us past more stone crosses…

A beautiful display of deep pink hydrangeas this time…

… a donkey…

And eventually to the sea at the town of Vilanova de Arousa. What a day!

End of day 11
