Sevilla you stole my heart!

So I couldn’t let my last post from Spain be my post about Barcelona because I’m a firm believer in ending on a high! I have spent the better part of 3 months getting to know this beautiful country – by foot as a Pilgrim from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela (also included a horse ride!) that took me through the Basque Country, Navarra, La Rioja, Castille y Leon, and Galicia. And as a tourist through Madrid, Andalucía and Barcelona (Cataluña). There were so many highlights. The ‘magic triangle’ of Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba in the region of Andalucía will remain in my memories as some of the most beautiful towns in Spain. Granada is the city of amazing tapas – order a drink at any of the wine bars and get rewarded with a significant morsel of deliciousness. We didn’t actually need to order a meal the whole time we were in Granada as the tapas was plentiful.

The Cathedral was beautiful…

And the Alhambra spectacular…

The Albacin area was reminiscent of Morocco. We spent an evening walking through here. Great doors…

And walls!

It was a hot night so locals were outside trying to stay cool. Loved these ladies. I want to be like them when I get old!

Then there was Córdoba-a quick day trip from Sevilla to see the amazing Mosque Cathedral. It was stunning. I have no further words!!

But Sevilla…now there’s a beautiful city. We were lucky enough to arrive to see the Festa of Santiago and Santa Ana. The whole town was out partying and there was a feast of colour, music, dancing and food to spoil us.

We went to see a flamenco show. Now, I must admit I didn’t realise flamenco was so…well… angst ridden! I didn’t really understand what the songs were about but they seemed filled with anguish and torment, anger and a really good dose of ‘f*#$ you’ between the two lovers! It was great to watch. This bit was at the end of the show when everyone was relatively happy again! Sevilla has heart and soul like no other city I’ve been to here in Spain. Yes, Sevilla, you stole my heart and I will definitely be back. Adios, hasta pronto!
