Yes, folks, the time had come to go undercover as a tourist and get a real feel for the delights of Leon. Lovely Leon. City of great hairdressers, delicious tapas, roman churches and a stunning cathedral. Not to mention seeing the Holy Grail (one of over 200 currently claimed to be in existence, but am pretty sure this was the real deal – in my expert opinion!). The Cathedral was stunning.

The tapas bars were a delight to discover. The Church of San Isadore, with it’s Roman frescoes and the Holy Grail was awesome. And having a rest day just made me realise how much I love sleeping in…going to the hairdresser…having a siesta on the couch… It was also great to spend time with our Camino family (all from Orisson!). You guys rock.

Tonight we met some Mormon elders hanging about in the Cathedral square. They are stationed here for their 2 years. They could have been straight out of the Book of Mormon! They hadn’t seen it, so I told them all about it.
I’m glad the meseta is over. It did my head in and was difficult physically and mentally. Clearly I was out of my mind for part of it (the part where I did the haka for on an international night at an albergue!). I am now well rested and (kind of) looking forward to another couple of days of walking to get to Astorga. We will stop there I think, to catch up with our Spanish teacher from Melbourne who lives there.
Here are some photos from the days leading to Leon…

We have almost reached the 500km mark. This means we only have another few weeks to go. Not sure how I am feeling about that. It’s been an interesting journey…
